Magnificent Popham Beach -for beachcombing, swimming, and picnicking- is only 2.5 miles away by bike or car. Another 1.5 miles and you are by historic Fort Popham enjoying glorious views up river or out to sea, a cruise to Seguin Island, fishing or dog-walking on Hunnewell Beach, buying a six pack or an ice cream cone at Percy’s Store, or eating very fresh seafood at Spinney’s Restaurant.
Nearby are many beautiful hikes including:
- Morse Mountain
- St. John’s Beach
- Totman Cove
- and the many Land Trust preserves, including the newly acquired (2000 acres) Basin.
The Sebasco Golf Course offers golfing with fabulous views. For restaurants, check out The Lobster House and Water’s Edge Restaurant and especially the unique North Creek Farm with it’s lovely gardens, delicious homemade lunches, and a small but very interesting gift shop.
Montsweag Flea Market and many others are on Rt.1 just north of Bath.
Bath’s charming downtown has unique shopping and a choice of traditional to avant garde restaurants. As a tribute to its shipbuilding past, the Maine Maritime Museum offers historic exhibits, boat cruises, and a tour of the Bath Ironworks.
South of Bath, the town of Brunswick has exciting and diverse shopping and dining, while adjacent Bowdoin College offers many cultural opportunities.
